Here at Ellis Heating and Air, the home of Gold Star Service, we're all family. I work alongside my dad, Don Ellis, to take care of all your service and installation needs. My wife, Dawn, handles everything in the office and our oldest daughter, Brittany, does our marketing. We've been doing things this way for over 10 years.
Back in the 1950's, my dad went to work for Wellman, Inc. in Johnsonville. He started out doing shift work, but when an opening in the HVAC department came available, he applied for it. With the experience he gained at Wellman, he took a position with ACS Mechanical, which became Hewitt Mechanical, and worked there for over 40 years. In 1996, Charles Hewitt passed away and Dad bought the company. Over the years it became present day Ellis Heating & Air. More than 55 years, he still hasn't looked back.
I started working with my dad as a teenager. He's taught me everything I know about the heating and air business. We've worked side by side for more than 25 years and I wouldn't have it any other way.
Don, a twin brother to Ronald, was born in Hemingway with two brothers and two sisters. A veteran of the Vietnam War, he and my mom, Mary, got married in 1967 and later had one son. They are now the proud grandparents to three wonderful granddaughters—Brittany, Rachel, and Laura Beth.
Two of my three girls, Rachel and Laura Beth, play softball, and I have coached Dixie Youth Softball for over eight years. They both play on a traveling team that Ellis Heating & Air sponsors. Our oldest daughter, Brittany, is married now and our granddaughter Emilee Kate will be born in May of this year. Dawn, the girls and I have two dogs—Lady is a miniature dachshund and Gents is a boxer.
Our entire family, from Dad all the way down to the dogs, works together and plays together. We support each other and the Carolina Gamecocks! Go Cocks!
